This is the most famous and adventurous train in north India. Mostly all the visitor who plan their Kasauli and Shimla tour wants to enjoy the toy train ride. In Kasauli there is no railway station but you can use toy train to Dharampur and Sanwara which is nearest station to kasauli. Toy train route starts from Kalka and ends in Shimla in between there is lots of hill station like Kasauli, Barog, Solan and Shoghi. It’s a totally a mountainous route from kalka to Shimla.
Kalka to Shimla toy train route was established by British Govt before our independence. Kalka to Shimla total distance is 96 km and routes have 103 tunnels and 864 bridges. This was the very difficult task at that time here from Kalka to Shimla is totally a mountainous route and due to lack of machinery it was too big task to do at that time. H. S Harington was the British chief engineer in 1898 who had take care this project. First in 2007 Himachal Government declared it heritage property later then in 2008 UNESCO added this railway line in world heritage site.
Every year thousands of tourists come Kasauli and Shimla enjoy this ride. Haryana, Delhi, Punjab are the nearest state that’s why every weekend here you will find lot of crowd. So you have to book it in advance and booking is open for all one month before. Toy Train only can book from IRCTC website or you can book at the same time of journey in Kalka Railway station.
The Station code of Kalka is KLK and nearest railway station to Kasauli is Dharampur which code is DMP. And if you want to come Shimla then Shimla Station code is SML. Kalka to Shimla is 5 hour Journey and mostly all the train starts morning 5 Am to 12 noon.
